Promoting the beneficial use of existing buildings and the conservation of heritage assets
Barnard Payne Consulting provides an advisory service to assist building owners and occupiers in considering options for the re-purposing of existing buildings, including those of architectural and historic interest.
The approach is based on experience in promoting schemes for the conservation and conversion of a wide range of statutorily listed and other buildings of value, considered to be redundant but with potential for a sustainable future.
Development Viability
We provide studies to consider the viability of alternative approaches to the re-use and restoration of existing buildings to provide a robust and sustainable future whilst respecting their architectural quality.
Heritage Impact
In the case of heritage assets, we prepare assessments to appraise the significance of buildings of architectural and historic interest, and the impact of proposed alteration or development on their character and settings.
In the case of development in conservation areas, we assess the character and appearance of the area and the potential impact of alteration and new development that would impact on those qualities.
Conservation Benefit
We prepare justification statements to make the case for development, setting out the site context, the development parameters and objectives, and assessing the value of the benefits that would accrue upon completion.
